I LOST 130 LEADS BECAUSE OF THIS SILLY MISTAKE

One of the biggest needs for internet marketers is to build a list. When an opportunity to build a big list is lost due to a silly mistake, it can cause unnecessary anxiety. Yes, I lost 130 leads because of this silly mistake, and I want to tell you about it so you can avoid the mistake. I’ll also show you how I rectified it.

The story

I came across a new affiliate offer that looked very promising. The returns from the program were very lucrative particularly as they were recurring benefits. Now, who would want to pass this up, right?

I didn’t either.

I jumped on the opportunity.

Here’s what got me hooked to the program

The program's hook

There was one twist to this program. It was a double-income-stream program. Which meant that by signing up to one free program, I would automatically be getting access to two profitable income streams – both programs have recurring benefits.

Here’s the math: If I get one sale to the affiliate offer, my earnings will average around $70. If the customer gets more of the upsells, my earnings drastically increase. Plus, there was an upsell (when I signed up) to get 100% commissions on the entire funnel. My earnings could go up to $120 per customer.

Suppose I got 10 customers, I would make $1200 each month.
If I got 20, then $2400.
If I got 50, then $6000.

You get the drift, right?

Let’s get back to my mistake

mistake

I prepared to promote this offer to my tiny list and also participate in a traffic rotator.

I got my affiliate link – this link lands on an optin page that gets leads into the actual program.

I cloaked it. (I use Rebrandly for this).

I posted the link in the rotator (which the vendor of the program provides), and also shared it in a traffic exchange in the form of an email (my favorite one so far is this one here).

I waited for a day and checked the stats.

I had a few clicks on the link.

I waited some more.

Two days later I had 130 clicks to the link, and I was amazed and super happy.

Then I realized something was off. I didn’t have any email addresses!

What could have gone wrong?

Impact of this mistake

Before I tell you, my mistake let me share with you the loss I felt.

  • I didn’t have any leads from this campaign
  • I wouldn’t be able to capture these leads again
  • I lost an opportunity to build an email list (130 people)
  • I lost time and effort
  • I lost an opportunity to build a relationship with people interested in my offer

It sucks!

It hurts.

I regretted.

I wanted to make amends.

Unbelievable that I made this silly mistake!

What was the mistake?

I didn’t capture the email lead while promoting this offer.

I didn’t create my own Optin page to accomplish this.

I was in a hurry to promote the offer.

Lesson I learned

While promoting your offers online, if you’re not capturing leads, you’re losing business.

Simple.

End of story.

I learned it the hard way.

What’s the solution?

The solution is simple but will require a bit of upfront work before the promotion starts. Let me lay it down for you in steps.

Step 1: Create an Optin Page

Step 2: Build a Bridge Page

Step 3: Link to the Affiliate Offer

Let’s ‘step’ deeper into these steps and understand how they fit into the profit picture.

Step 1: Create an Optin Page

You can use any software to create these optin pages. If you use WordPress, you can use any page builder (Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, Visual Composer, etc.) to accomplish this. If you use funnel builders like ClickFunnels, GrooveFunnels, Systeme.io, BuilderAll, etc., the step will be easier as you will have ready made templates you can just plug-in and use.

Your optin should be a very simple one: A headline, a sub-headline, optin field(s), submit button.

This should take you a few minutes to complete.

Now, you may think – “Won’t the customer have too many optin pages to enter their details into?”

Well, yes. You’re right.

But that’s where the next step plays such a significant role. Don’t miss that.

Step 2: Build a Bridge Page

The bridge page is also known as a pre-sell page. Customers don’t know what to expect when they opt-in to your offer. They are wary. They want to know more before the final plunge. They want to have more information. They want to be sure. They want assurance.

That’s exactly what your bridge page should accomplish.

It is a value page that offers more information about the affiliate offer before the customer even gets to see it.

Value could be in the form of a video explaining how you (or someone you know) benefitted from using the offer. Or it could be some snippets of content/images from the actual product.

This is your opportunity to offer even more to the lead. You can show them you care. You can offer bonuses that will be useful if they take you up on the affiliate offer. You can give them more free stuff.

You want this page to initiate the Know-Like-Trust phase of your marketing efforts.

Place links on your bridge page that will lead them to the affiliate offer.

The customer has been prepared to go on to the next step. He has more information. He is well-informed. His decision is not a blind one. He will be thankful to you for your effort in providing this information upfront.

There will be lower resistance.

You will have more high-quality conversions.

Now, if you’d like to see an example of this entire process, use this link.

Final thoughts

If you really want to succeed online, you need to build a list (especially if you want to get into the Affiliate marketing world).

Don’t make the mistake I made.
